Supporting Children at Home

At home please encourage children to:

  • Talk about what they see, feel and experience at home and at school.
  • Use the toilet independently, washing and drying hands.
  • Dress and undress independently.
  • Use a knife and fork independently.
  • Draw circles, lines and shapes and then simple pictures.
  • Count forwards and backwards to 10 and beyond.
  • Talk about shapes and patterns that they can see at home.
  • Talk about and compare the size of objects around the home.
  • Share books as often as possible. Talk about the pictures and point out the first sounds in words.
  • Play games like 'I spy' and listen to the first sounds in words.
  • Use scissors to cut along lines.
  • Sing songs and make music
  • Hold a pencil/crayon/paintbrush and make marks or copy the letters in their name.
  • Last but not least, have fun!!
