Encouraging Being Physical

In EYFS we recognise the importance of children's physical development.  We have planned PE sessions as well as free flow access to our outdoor space. We recently audited our outdoor provision to ensure that resources promote physical development and encourage the use of gross motor skills which will in turn enhance fine motor development.  We are thinking 'big' and aim not to recreate what is available indoors, outdoors.

We encourage children to take risks, persevere and be resilient when moving physically.  We arrange our indoor environment to promote moving too by reducing the amount of tables and chairs and increase the amount of 'belly button' movement!

There are lots of opportunities for children to strengthen their physical skills in our continuous provision too.  We have free access to a snack table where children pour and prepare their own milk and fruit. Areas such as the sand, water, construction and playdough have resources that match match, stretch and challenge different abilities.

The children also love taking part in our Funky Fingers and Big Moves sessions!
